My story begins once upon a time in the not so distant past, when my contractor sent me a video of a home (see link below). The video was MAGICAL. There were tree-lined streets, golf course views and the spa was a stones throw away. Did I mention that it is located in a beautiful and desirable neighborhood… It had it all. I took the only logical course of action and I dialed my realtor (who also happens to be my daughter 😉 ) as fast as I could to find out if this magical house was still available.
It was not (insert favorite let down word here). Dreams crushed… I thought this was the end of the story and it just wasn’t meant to be. However, It wouldn’t be a journey if the first trial stopped us in our tracks now would it?
Fast-forward 2 days later. The clouds part, a beam of light shines down on my computer, and what just happened to come up in one of my feeds? THE HOUSE _ OMG!!!. It was suddenly available again and this time I was ON IT. Magic was back on the menu and I was HUNGRY! I put on my favorite shoes (I love shoes… we will talk about that later), gathered up all my glitter, and prepared to walk down that tree-lined street right alongside the deer from the video straight into my new life and dream home… I was PUMPED!
Life had other plans and it turned out that it was now time for trial number two. Reality doesn’t always meet expectations, and this little Chateau had some surprises in store for us the form of septic tank issues, mold, water in the basement, and worst of all – spiders. SPIDERS! They might as well be trials number three through eleven all rolled into one giant eight-legged ball! Is it obvious that this story is no fairy tale? I talked to Mr. Wiley – we decided….this is an amazing neighborhood – we can fix the house —- right?!
Many deep breaths and some time spent soul-searching – finally – we knew we had to take a chance. WE BOUGHT IT! After all you can’t celebrate a triumph without challenges to overcome.
We closed on June 30th. Now were are here. We have two house payments and a major renovation needed – there is a long road to go before we can even start to consider moving into our little Chateau. When I close my eyes I think about the beautiful neighborhood and the possibilities that lie ahead – all while trying to remember what flavor of Cup Noodles I like best since that’s the budget we’re rolling with now.
I know the transformation will be worth it in the end. Getting there is going to be the fun part. I invite you to join me on a journey that I am sure will be filled with trials, tribulations and triumphs AND a lot of laughter.
First things first … stock up on sage to burn in the house and put on my game face to begin the spider eviction process, because we all know they will NOT go willingly.
Today I am #grateful for Family, Brooms, and Resilience.
